Mossley’s Academy team no doubt rued the absence of forwards Antonio Din Chin (unavailable) and Connor Yeoman (injured) as a lack of attacking options saw the side create far less scoring opportunities than has been the norm this season as the Lilywhites youngsters succumbed to two late goals when going down 4-2 to Mickleover Sports Blacks at Seel Park on Wednesday.

The visitors opened strongly but Mossley defended well and opened the scoring with a superb individual Prince Owusu 11th minute effort. Confronted by three Sports defenders he danced around and through them before slotting home in the bottom corner.

The lead lasted less than ten minutes when Murtaza Haidary finished an attacking move down Mossley’s left.

Mickleover took the lead just before the half hour mark when a mis-timed challenge saw a penalty awarded to the visitors which Manzor Amiri coolly converted.

There were few clear chances for either side as defences dominated but Mickleoever looked the more dangerous after the break. However, it was Mossley who scored the next goal on 62 minutes. Carlos De Sa beat two defenders on a run down the left and his pull back was smartly slotted home by midfielder Declan Lewis.

Mickleover continued to dominate and they were unlucky not to score when a looping effort by Gilhooley came back off the Mossley bar.

The visitors weren’t to be denied though and regained the lead in the 78th minute when Conah Ward struck with a shot from the edge of the box which seemed to take a deflection before beating keeper Hassan Sattar.

Too often Mossley’s final pass let them down as they struggled hard to find an equaliser and it was the visitors who sealed the win late on when substitute Haroon Tariq’s effort dipped under the Mossley bar.
